In 2002, with the support of West Mercia Police and Shropshire Council, Buntingsdale Infant school was one the first schools in Shropshire to start the security/safety initiative called ‘Safer Schools’. With the support of governors, Headteacher Mrs Alcock guided the school to the Safer School accreditation in 2003. Subsequently and most importantly, the school has maintained the Safer School involvement for 14 years, even during the change to a Primary school. During this period, the school has held regular ‘Safer School Group’ meetings, involving school staff, pupils, governors, Army camp staff, the Police and Shropshire Council. During these Group meetings, security and safety measures have been reviewed, action plans updated and the school incident recording reviewed. The School recently held a Safer School Group meeting and it was well attended. Although Mrs Alcock is leaving the school, a future Safer School Group meeting has been planned for 2018. I wish Mrs Alcock all the best and happiness for the future and may her new career direction be a success.
