Shamrock Class

Welcome to Shamrock Class! The class teacher is Miss Baxter, supported by our teaching assistants Mrs Jackson and Mrs K.

In Shamrock Class, all learning is planned around an engaging theme. During the Spring term, our topic is Outer Space, inspired by the book The Darkest Dark by Chris Hadfield. This theme will help to spark curiosity and excitement across the curriculum.

Each child is given a reading book that matches their reading age (ZPD), which can be found in your child’s reading record. Parents are encouraged to record any reading completed at home in this record. We celebrate reading regularly: children who read three times a week receive a reading card, and those who read five or more times can also choose a special shiny card. Children are encouraged to change their reading books regularly and independently to ensure they are reading within their ZPD. Additional guided reading sessions (Fred Teach) also take place in class using a range of texts.

Home learning activities are sent home every Monday in a homework folder. These tasks are linked to the learning taking place in class that week and should be completed and returned by Friday. Log-in details for Purple Mash are provided and updated annually to support home learning.

Spellings are sent home on a Friday to practise and are then tested in school the following Friday.

We take part in PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children should have a full PE kit in school at all times, clearly labelled, as kits will be kept in school in case of timetable changes.

If you have any questions about what is happening in Shamrock Class, please do not hesitate to speak to us. You can also contact us via the school office by email or telephone.
