Welcome to Thistle Class

The teachers in Thistle Class are Miss Benford and Mrs Brimley and the class teaching assistants are Mrs Morgan –Taylor and Mrs McAuley. Mrs Doree also supports groups of children within Thistle Class during the week.
In Thistle Class all planning is based around a theme and for the Autumn Term our theme is Amazing Rivers.

Each child is given a reading book which matches their phonic understanding for you to read at home and you are encouraged to record any reading you do at home in the reading journal. We will count up how  many reads they do each week and if they do 3 reads they will receive a reading card. If they are superstars and read more than 5 times they will also choose a special shiny card too. Children are encouraged to change their books regularly and independently. Additional guided reading sessions also take place in class using a range of books.

Home learning activities are sent out on a Monday in a homework folder. These activities will be a mix of curriculum based on our learning that week. These are to be completed and handed in by the following Monday.

Log-in details for PurpleMash are sent home and updated annually to support home learning activities.

Spellings are sent out on a Friday to practice at home and then tested the following Friday in school.

We take part in PE activities on Thursday each week, and children are expected to have a PE kit to change into. Please ensure it is fully labelled and should be left in school in case of any timetabling changes.

If you have any queries about what is happening in Thistle Class please do not hesitate to speak to us or you can send a message through the office by e-mail or telephone.

Thank you
